1st INTERNATIONAL SPORTS DRAWING COMPETITION
3rd SPORTS GRAPHIC HUMOUR COMPETITION

Introduction

The Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya (Catalan Union of Sports
Federations) announces its 1st International Sports Drawing Competition which
is open to all artists and whose theme is sport in general.
The competition will be biennial, and is intended to bring sport closer to the
work of artists in order to extend and promote drawing as a unique expression
of sport.
The Federation also announces its 3rd Sports Graphic Humour Competition
which is open to all works published in the print media or on the Internet and
all unpublished works submitted to the Unio de Federacions Esportives de
Catalunya prior to the deadline established in the competition rules.
This competition is exclusively sponsored by FIATC Assegurances and is
partnered by a number of organizations.
The requirements for entries, the prizes, the jury and the other features of the
competition are set out in the rules which are binding on all contestants.

RULES

1. Purpose and types
The Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya, with the support of the
Fundacio Catalana per a l’Esport (Catalan Foundation for Sport), is holding the
1st International Sports Drawing Competition and the 3rd Sports Graphic
Humour Competition, whose theme is sport in general.

2. Entrants
These competitions are open to all artists.

3. Sports Drawing

• Original drawings must be in black and white, in pencil, charcoal, Indian
ink, fountain pen or ink. Collages and coloration will not be admitted.
• Each author may submit up to two works, and no more than one
drawing per picture or frame will be accepted.
• The size of the drawings must be between 30 and 80 cm without a
frame, and frames will be a maximum of 2 cm wide. The drawings will
be protected with methacrylate.
• Contestants will attach the information in the data sheet attached to
these rules on the back of each work they submit.
• The works will be submitted at the headquarters of
the Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya, Rambla Catalunya, 81,
Barcelona, Spain, from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 6 pm from
Monday to Thursday.
• Original drawings must not have been entered for other competitions.
There will be a single indivisible prize of €3,000 (three thousand Euros), and
two honourable mentions with a prize of €1,000 each, to be awarded by a
majority vote of the jury.
The jury may declare the prizes void. The winning works will remain the
property of the Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya, which may give
them to any museum in Catalonia.

4. Sports Humour

• The sports graphic humour prizes are biennial and are designed to
extend and foster cartoons and cartoon strips as a unique expression of
comic sports drawing.
• The sports cartoons or strips may be unpublished or published (in
Catalan) in any publication media in Catalonia during the period
September 2009 to September 2010.
• As a guideline the minimum size of the printed strip must be 19 x 6 cm
and the maximum 30 x 18 cm. Only a maximum of two works per
competitor will be accepted.
• Works entered for the sports graphic humour prizes must be presented
at the headquarters of the Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya
prior to February 28. 2011.

• There will be a prize of €1,500 (one thousand five hundred Euros) and a
second prize of €1,000 (one thousand Euros), both to be awarded by a
majority vote of the jury.

5. Jury
The jury for the acceptance of entries and the award of prizes is chaired by the
president of the Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya and is made up of
an official from the Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya, a trustee of
the Fundacio Privada Catalana per l’Esport, an official from the Fundacio
Privada Vila Casas, the director of the Salo Internacional del Comic de Barcelona
(Barcelona International Comic Fair), a member of the Associacio de
Publicacions Periodiques en Catala (Association of Periodical Publications in
Catalan), a member of the Associacio Catalana de Premsa Comarcal (Catalan
County Press Association), an art critic, a leading artist, a sportsperson, a
journalist from the sports newspaper SPORT, a journalist from the sports newspaper
Mundo Deportivo, and a journalist from the sports newspaper 9 Esportiu,
all of them appointed by the Unio de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya.
A member of the UFEC will be the secretary and may speak but not vote contest.
The agrements and the verdict of the jury are final. Entering the
implies the acceptance of these rules.

6. Jury’s verdict and exhibition
• The jury’s verdict and the selection of works to be exhibited will be
announced at the prize-giving ceremony for the awards
which will be convened in due course.
• The venue for the display will be the exhibition hall at the Museu Colet,
or any other place that may be selected.

7. Return of works
• Works not selected for the exhibition must be collected, against return of
the delivery receipt, within three months from the date of the prize-
giving ceremony.
• Works selected for the exhibition must be collected, against return of the
delivery receipt, within three months from the end of the public
exhibition of the works.
• Once these deadlines have expired, works which have not been collected
will be considered to be a donation to the UFEC which may use them as
it deems fit. The authors of such works shall not be entitled to claim
them back as they will be understood to have waived such a right.
