Dear Sir/Madam,
We are writing to you to ask your support of our campaign for the preservation of the Warsaw Museum of Caricature which is under threat of a senseless merger with the Museum of Warsaw.
Here are the facts:
1. The project for the merger of the Museum of Caricature (MoC) in Warsaw with the Museum of Warsaw (MoW) has been presented to the Commission of Culture of the Warsaw City Council and has been accepted by the small majority of votes.
2. The second vote at Council - held on May 28 - confirms the vote in favour of the project by a majority of 7 out of 57 votes cast. The Ministry of Culture will take a final decision within 2-3 months
3. In a radio interview on May 29 the Minister of Culture Malgorzata Omilanowska said that she was not in favour of the idea but the decision will be in the hands of Advisory Committee for Museum Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
4. The merger arrangement would mean a terminal loss of a unique, internationally recognised, institution, furthermore it would compromise MoC ability to programme independently and provide in situ wide research facilities through its archives.
5. The museum’s collection houses work by cartoonists from all over the world - not just Warsaw - and these will be in danger of being dispersed around different sites of the MoW as in all likelihood it will be moved out of its present residence.
6. The highly qualified and dedicated staff are also facing potential job loses.
7. Only last week the museum has been listed by the Guardian newspaper as one of the "Ten best museums in Europe, that you may have never heard of" – see link below
http://www.theguardian.com/…/10-best-european-museums-paris…

witold@mysyrowicz.comModel letter should you require one:
We view with great concern the plans to absorb the Warsaw Museum of Caricature in its entirety into the Museum of Warsaw. We see this as potentially detrimental to its unique identity and the curtailing of its cultural and social function as an independent and internationally recognised and respected institution.
We would draw your attention to the fact that the Guardian newspaper in Britain recently listed the museum as “one of the ten best” in Europe, see http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2015/ ... erlin-rome.
We believe the sovereignty of such institutions is essential if a vibrant and all-encompassing cultural environment is to flourish and we would urge you to reconsider the validity of this project which, if it goes ahead, can only reflect negatively on the city's standing as a major centre for the arts nationally and globally.
