“Next Stop: Spring,” by Jenny Kroik
“I’m on the subway all the time,” the artist Jenny Kroik says, about her inspiration for this week’s cover. “It’s a great place
to let your imagination loose and get ideas. You’re surrounded by so many people and stories.”
“I saw a young girl glued to the window, fascinated by the tunnel,” Kroik continues. “It got me thinking about how one’s
imagination is always active when you’re a kid. I started wondering, what can she possibly see? Beautiful flowers? I tried
to see the tunnel through her eyes.”
“In Full Bloom,” by Maira Kalman
“I’m always looking at the couture shows, and Philip Treacy’s hats are completely captivating,” the artist Maira Kalman
says, about the headwear at the Spring 2018 Valentino show, in Paris, which inspired this week’s cover. “A painter
can’t help but paint them,” Kalman continued. “There’s something about hats that captures all the whimsy and madness
of what fashion might be.”
