Bali is well-known as the Paradise Island in Indonesia. This Island possesses a unique culture which is very different from the other islands in this country. Where most of the societies are Hindus and they apply their ancestor tradition very much. Bali is a unique island because of its beautiful nature, temples, dance, paintings, statues, masks, and the characteristic puppet. Since 1970's there was a huge mobilization of tourism industry. Bali becomes more unique as it has the mixing of cultures from entire of the world. Most of the tourists are coming from Australia, Japan, Europe, and America. In early days most Balinese were farmer and fishermen. Nowadays, they are working in the hotel, café and the others tourism industry. Although some Balinese people still preserve their traditional culture such as arts, fashion and still conduct their traditional ceremonies but most of them have forgot about how to plant and how to fish in the sea. In 2002 there was a terrible tragedy in Bali. Terrorists from outside Bali had bombed exactly in the centre of tourists activities in Kuta area near from the beach. Actually 300 victims were involved after the tragedy and mostly foreign tourists. But after this period, Bali faces a more terrible tragedy. Tourists are afraid to visit Bali, many hotels and resorts which depend on tourism are closed. Many people are unemployed, moreover the psychological effects felt by Balinese who are typically very kind people. Not yet the hurt had been recovered, the terrorists blast the second bomb again in the same place in 2005. The unemployment is getting developed and it has been too late to go back to agriculture or marine industry.

This time Bali is trying to promote again that Bali expects the tourism industry to be recovered. The tourists who have known Bali are also promoting that Bali is still the appropriate and safe place to visit and that bombing tragedy was only a tragedy which can be happened anywhere.

This International Cartoon Exhibition is one of the efforts to promote Balinese culture.
