Party Toons

Drew Rougier-Chapman has announced a contest to help promote "Party Toons," a weekly political-satire show being developed for PBS.

"I'm offering $500 for the cartoon, either animated or in print, that best expresses why editorial cartoons are so vital to democracy and why the continuing decline in the ranks of editorial cartoonists is so dangerous," said Rougier-Chapman.

There's also a second prize of $150 and a third prize of "The Complete Cartoons of the New Yorker" (on CD and in print) that sells for $60.

"The top winner or winners will also be offered the opportunity to appear as a guest cartoonist on an episode of 'Party Toons' if and when the show is eventually broadcast," added Rougier-Chapman.

"Party Toons" is a half-hour program built around editorial cartoons and the political comedy of Will Durst, who also writes a column syndicated by Cagle Cartoons.

The deadline for contest submissions is this Sept. 1, and the winners will be announced Sept. 27 -- the birthday of editorial cartooning legend Thomas Nast (1840-1902).

Submissions should be e-mailed to rougierchapmana@yahoo.com or postal-mailed to Rougier-Chapman at 21594 Iredell Terrace, Broadlands, VA 20148. www.editorandpublisher.com
