"Red Men" предлагает откликнуться своими рисунками, посвящёнными трагедии в Сычуане:

Pray for the victims of the earthquake-stricken area in CHINA
According to the report of the China National Monitoring Network, an earthquake of 7.8 scales attacked Wenchuan Town in Sichuan Province in China. The whole society are paying great effort to resist earthquake and provide disaster relief to the disaster area.

The confirmed national death toll reached 19,509 by 2 pm May 15, nearly all of them in Sichuan, according to the temporary disaster relief headquarters. Another 9,404 were buried in debris, 7,841 were missing and 26,206 people were injured. The rising death toll affects everyone's heart. The tunnels and bridges are totally destroyed in Wenchuan. Another town called Beichuan is completely in ruins. This natural disaster brings great sadness and pain to people in Wenchuan. When the mankind suffering disaster, the lives being threatened by the earthquake, please stretch you kindly hands, bridge the difficulties together with the fellowmen in the disaster area.

We propose that cartoonists all over the world to show your love, pray for the lives in the disaster area with your works, wish them peace and safe.

2. Deadline: June 15, 2008.

3. 10 works will be selected and awarded by Chinese souvenirs.

C одной стороны стремление организаторов понятно, а с другой - стоило ли? Карикатура и беда, с кровоточащей ещё раной, не совсем состыковываются, как мне кажется. Особенно в свете недавнего разговора о понимании жанра как комичного, смешного, весёлого. Какой там гротеск на фиг... Да и кого тут высмеивать, что? Боюсь, что получится некая околокарикатурная выставка плаката и изобразительных поминок, совершенно грустная и мрачная в целом (почище экологическо-планетной и провальной, как по мне, "Dedete-2008").
Поддержать бы вроде надо, но как найти ту золотую середину между трагичной темой и карикатурой? Как верно выдержать трагикомичную ноту, чтобы это одновременно не воспринималось одними как оскорбление чувств (что запросто!), а другими как очередной околоконкурсный мрачняк и скука? Вы представляете сложность задачи - смех сквозь слёзы (или наоборот), сочувствие и ирония?
Ладно, посмотрим, что из этого выйдет, может я зря сомневаюсь.

Не совсем уверен в правильном переводе предложенных тем:
"Мольба, Любовь, Endow???, Землетрясение, Защита от природных бедствий. Вы также можете выбирать свою собственную тему."

Дима, похоже ты прав. Тут по радио передавали, как американская корреспондентка пыталась взять
интервью у лиц, собравшихся вокруг развалин. Так на нее смотрели чуть не как на виновницу происшедшего.

Конечно карикатурист способен произвести только карикатуру, и в нашем случае сатирический рисунок
кому-то может показаться оскорбительным... В ситуации трагедии вообще непросто адекватно реагировать,
тут кстати работы Серова 1905-го года - прекрасный пример тактичного и остросатирического решения.
Но тогда у художника была ясная политическая мишень, а делать картинки против природной стихии -
явный идиотизм...

Пришло нижеследующее письмо:

Dear my friends

Today, I met Ms. Xuxiao, very famous woman publisher
and writer in China. She just returned from earthquake
disaster area of Sichuan province as NGO volunteer. We
are astonished by her witness about the tragedy of
this disaster. We share the great concern about many
orphans and parents who lost their children as well as
wounded people. Their sufferings and pains of losing
family members and friends as homes cannot be
expressed in the writings and beyond of languages
description. Ms. Xu believes the comic artworks can
console the souls of heaven and heal the wounded
hearts of children and people.

We accept her suggestion and would coordinate with her
to publish and distribute the comic collection book
entitled on "Second Life" to our suffered people so
as to encourage and console our people on behalf of
the organizing committee of AYACC. Please send us your
and your friends¡¯ comics on this subject to us before
June 15 so that we can compile and edit this special
cartoon book in time. We are sure different art styles
of cartoon created by the artists from various
countries would bring the courage, hope and dream to
our suffered people. It would become historical
cartoon record of friendship, compassion and kindness
in the recovering and rebirth period of this special
time.

Please donate your and your friends touching and
moving cartoon to AYACC. We can find publishing

В принципе нечто в виде плаката, посвященного жертвам наверное можно произвести. Как я понимаю,
распространяя книжку, китайцы смогут вызвать дополнительный интерес и пожертвования.
